Area Rug Cleaning
Evaluation – Each rug is carefully examined upon arrival giving you a complete understanding of the condition of your carpet and the methods we will employ to clean it.
Dusting – Arguably the most important step in oriental rug cleaning. One of the greatest assaults to an oriental rug is the loose dirt it is naturally subjected to over the course of time. This causes premature wear as the grit comes to rest in the foundation of your carpet breaking the rug fibers as we walk on it. Our dusting oriental rug cleaning process uses the revolutionary new Rug Badger. Emulating the “rug beaters” of past generations, this updated method vibrates all that loose dirt out of your rug BEFORE it can turn into mud during the washing process. The colors in your rug have already brightened and we haven’t put the first drop of shampoo or water on it. (It is not unusual to remove 5-10 pounds of dirt in a room size carpet during this process.) Obviously, one of the benefits of this dusting process is extending the life of your carpet.
Washing – Each oriental rug cleaning process is hand washed using a shampoo specifically developed for Oriental rugs. Whenever possible “Green Products” are used in oriental rug cleaning. The shampoo is sprayed on to the pile and groomed into the rug using either a horse hair brush or a natural sea sponge. After an allotted dwelling time the shampoo is extracted.
Extracting – Shampoo is extracted from the rug using equipment which pulls 85% of the liquid from the rug while applying a vaporized fiber rinse to ensure that each fiber is free of any shampoo residue.
Grooming and Drying – After the carpet is cleaned, the pile is groomed so the wool fibers are uniform in direction maximizing light. The rug can now be dried quickly which will prevent browning and/or dry rotting of the foundation. For this we employ the use of high powered air movers which allow us to dry both the top and bottom of the rug simultaneously.
Of course the above guidelines are basic and each rug presents its own unique set of circumstances, such as wool or cotton foundation, stable or migratory dyes, hand or machine made. All of these considerations are taken into account as we return your rug to its original beauty.
